2015 Betting System Oscars: Best Betting Bot

2015 Betting System Oscars: Best Betting Bot

My annual Betting System Oscars have become a firm favourite amongst readers since they were introduced in 2012.

Readers vote for the same gongs each year… and, perhaps because they, rather than I, are making the decisions,  the resulting awards pages are always some of the busiest on the site.

The upshot is… I’ve not changed the format one jot since we doled out the very first Oscar.

Until now, that is.

Yes, for the first time ever, I’m introducing a brand new award – voted for by readers once again – for a rapidly emerging category I can no longer ignore.

Welcome to this year’s inaugural Betting Oscar for … Best Betting Bot!

And the award has gone to a product we’ve never previously reviewed at Lay Back.

Though, in many ways, it could be argued that this bot is the ‘grandaddy’ of all the many new pieces of automation software that have suddenly flooded the market.

Simply because it’s been around for about a decade!

Yes, you’ve guessed it, the winner of the 2015 Best Betting Bot Oscar is….

is…..

is…… (deep breath!…)

Bet Angel
Bet Angel is a remarkably powerful piece of betting software.

It’s the sort of product that I must confess to baulking at slightly when it comes to testing, as it’s just so comprehensive, I fear a proper trial might take over my life!

But the fact we’ve never reviewed it before at Lay Back hasn’t stopped its many fans from voting it in as a comfortable winner.

I’d describe Bet Angel as a complete support environment for exchange users, which you can either use either in:

  • realtime to improve your live trading or
  • batch mode, via scripts, to automate pre-defined strategies.

Peter Webb’s two-minute introduction gives you a fair bit more detail (even if the swirling screens behind his head are a little disturbing!).

Bet Angel comes in three flavours, plus there’s even a two week free trial so you can try before you buy.

The Basic version appears to be permanently free but doesn’t, in truth, offer a lot. However, the Trader and Professional options provide an extraordinary range of features – and either can be downloaded by anyone who fancies trying them for that free fortnight.

Peter was naturally thrilled to receive the Oscar and sends this message:

“On behalf of the team at Bet Angel we are delighted to have been voted the best betting bot of 2015.

“Since we created the first version of Bet Angel ten years ago, we have worked relentlessly hard to keep improving it. This is what has helped our members to keep ahead in a competitive market. It’s something we plan to do for some time to come!”

It’s hard not to be as impressed by Bet Angel’s longevity and popularity as I am by its dazzling list of features.

It has been through a whole series of upgrades as real traders have identified new needs and opportunities.  What we have today in Bet Angel is a thoroughly robust, fully featured sports trading tool and environment that clearly Lay Back readers regard as second to none.

In my opinion, Bet Angel is therefore a worthy winner of the first ever Lay Back Oscar for Best Betting Bot.

  1. Alistair,

Many thanks for your quick and comprehensive reply, much appreciated – I will look at your ‘machine’ – from what you say it may just be what I’m looking for.

    Regards

Whilst your question seems simple, it generates a number of questions:

    1. Are you expecting to lay at on-course prices, or just lay at current market odds?

To place a lay bet, you will be dealing with a betting exchange, like Betfair or BetDAQ. The prices on the exchange will be different to the prices on-course (they will often be higher). All bots deal with the exchanges, so you will be betting at exchange odds and NOT at the on-course prices.

    2. When you say “on-course prices” are you referring to the odds available in the run up to the start of the race, or the reported SP odds?

It is possible for some bots to look at the on-course prices in the run up to the start of the race, but no bot will be able to look at SP odds. This is because SP odds are not generated until well after the start of the race and are not published until even later.

If you are dealing with Betfair, then you can access the Betfair Starting Prices (BSP) as soon as the race goes InPlay.

    3. What do you mean by “at the off”?

There is no way for a bot to tell when a race is going to start, so most bots work off the SCHEDULED start time of the race. Betting at 10 seconds to the off, therefore, means 10 seconds to the scheduled start time. Of course, the actual start of the race may be 10 seconds, or 10 minutes later!

Again, if you are working with the exchanges, then you can place bets at the actual start of the race by waiting for the race to go InPlay.

There are plenty of bots that will work directly with the main exchanges but less that look at on-course prices.

[vested interest declaration! – TheBetEngine is my bot]

TheBetEngine is a bot designed for use with Betfair. It is able to look at the on-course prices in the run up to the start of the race and to use them as the basis of placing bets.

This means that you can look for horses that are trading at on-course odds of 5/2 and then place bets on them. However, the bets will be placed on the exchange at the current exchange market odds.

TheBetEngine has a number of in-built recovery staking plans that would allow you to recover your losses on the next bet.

  3. Hello,

I should be grateful if anyone can tell me if there is a bot out there that will lay the selected on course price at the off of a race automatically? So I decide I want to lay any 5/2 priced horse in the 1.00 1.30 and 2.00 and if it wins recover the loss on the next 5/2 in the next chosen race.

Many thanks in anticipation of any help you can give me.

    Dave

    1. Hi there,

Sorry for my slow response, I’ve been away on holiday.

I’ve emailed you instructions for getting my free 1k manual.

      Lucy

  4. Hi Lucy,
I would really like to see you do a comparison between BetAngel and Cymatic Trader, especially now that the latter has been upgraded to include spreadsheets.
    Thanks.

  5. Best Award you ever gave out Lucy . This is heads above anything out there FACT

I have nothing to do with Peter Webb or Bet Angel but give credit where its due .

  6. STOP PRESS!

Peter Webb has written to me to indicate that he will shortly be releasing details of a new competition for Lay Back readers to win a copy of BetAngel.

    More details to follow!

    Lucy
