Over Goals Tips Review

Lay Back & Get Rich betting system review

It’s taken me five months to test Over Goals Tips: but I don’t mind as it’s a very appealing product.

The strike rate is terrific…

The effort involved is negligible…

The risk is low…

But the profits – well, they’re pretty low too.

All of which led me to ask in my month #4 report: “How much profit is ‘enough’ for a system to be considered worthwhile?”

Because, as you’ll see below, Over Goals Tips has made money.

So how much profit is enough for you…?

Over Goals Tips
Over Goals Tips

Overall we’re looking at a net profit of 8.3 points.

So inevitably the high-level statistics are not exactly earth-shattering:

Over Goals Tips Whole Trial
Profit 8.32
Bets 206
Winning Bets 169
Strike Rate 82%
ROI 4.0%
Average Odds 1.27
Highest Balance 8.32
Lowest Balance -4.20

Still, there are a number of very positive things to emphasize.

Firstly, and unusually for a straight betting trial, there have been no heart attacks. Not one.

Because our lowest net position was a balance of just -4.2 points.

Meaning that Over Goals hasn’t been a pain to live with.

Secondly, it’s cheap.

In its very simplest form, you can get the list of teams to back for just £12 + VAT.

Though if you want to have the selections picked for you, it’s going to cost you more.

Thirdly and fourthly – well, I’ve already mentioned the high strike rate and minimal effort requirement.

These again both make life much easier. You are not going to have to deal with long losing runs nor spend hours in front of your computer.

In short, this is betting at its quickest and least alarming. And that really ought to count for something.

If you’d like to peruse the complete results log, you can do so here.

Summary

Deciding on Pass or Fail marks for product trials is usually pretty straightforward. Most of the time, the result tends to scream at you from the results log.

However, that’s not the case with Over Goals Tips. Nobody is going to go crazy about 8  points’ profit in five months.

But you know, there is a lot to be said for a service that, even on its bad days, doesn’t scare you to death.

This is a wonderfully cautious system that could just make you some nice undemonstrative profits: precisely as it has done for me.

You just need to be patient with it..

So Over Goals Tips makes sense to me as part of a portfolio. And for that reason, I’m going to award it a Pass.

I don’t expect anyone who gets a copy of the manual to retire young as a result.

But it might just put a little smile on your face if you stick at it.

Update: 25th April 2016

How much profit is ‘enough’ for a system to considered worthwhile?

I find I’m asking myself this question a lot as I grind through my ultra-low-risk Over Goals Tips trial.

I’ve tested a lot of volatile products here at Lay Back, and learned slowly to live with the emotions that come with triumph and disaster.

However, there is an opposite, less talked-out-about problem with low-risk alternatives such as this one.

Specifically, is Over Goals Tips perhaps just a bit too dull….?

Over Goals Tips
Over Goals Tips

Let’s consider the facts.

First of all, we do, just about, remain in profit, as you can see.

Over Goals Tips  Whole Trial Month 4 Only
Profit 3.04 -0.3
Bets 156 40
Winning Bets 126 31
Strike Rate 81% 78%
ROI 1.9% -0.8%
Average Odds 1.27 1.28

And yes, that ROI is extremely modest.

But then the strike rate is reassuringly high and volatility is minimal.

The running balance has never exceeded +5.64 points. Nor have we ever fallen below -4.2.

Over Goals Tips - Performance
Over Goals Tips – Performance

The problem is that the prices on offer are so short and the market extremely efficient.

Hence months like this one where nothing much happened!..

Summary

In an odd sort of way, it’s nice to be able to run an uneventful trial.

Betting has the reputation for being extremely risky. However, Over Goals Tips is anything but.

Of course, it’s not a huge amount of fun either. But maybe that shouldn’t come into it. After all, we’re about profit here at Lay Back, not that dreaded bookie construct, recreational betting.

I will draw final conclusions in my next – and last – report when I get to 200 bets, which will be in 44 bets’ time.

But in the meantime, if you like the sound of ultra-low risk goals betting, you can still get hold of the Over Goals manual for just £12 here.

Update: 27th March 2016

Patience is one of the least popular virtues.

And when it comes to betting, I suspect we all struggle with it.

Hence the appeal of high strike rate systems, as they massively reduce the risk of depressingly long, losing runs.

Over Goals Tips attracted me for precisely this reason.

In theory, it holds out the promise of good profits and limited drawdowns.

The only trouble is, up until now the first part of that equation – the profits – have been conspicuously absent.

Still, we entered month #3 just 2 points in arrears… so could Over Goals finally haul itself into the black?

Over Goals Tips

Yes. We finally had a positive month. 🙂

We added five points which, at these very short prices, is remarkable.

Summary

In addition to an excellent monthly performance, the tipster demonstrated commendable customer service skills when he wrote on Friday to say that he’d rather not issue unpredictable selections from this weekend’s batch of friendlies.  Instead, he explained that he will “add a free week to all of your subscriber balances as compensation”.

If only all services were run in such a spirit.

I said last time that my enthusiasm for this trial was flagging.

Well, it’s now been reignited by a fine month’s performance. Let’s hope we continue in the same vein.

I’ll be back in late April with my next report.

In the meantime, you can find out more about Over Goals Tips here.

Update: 27th February 2016

Call it a bias if you like, but I have a soft spot for inexpensive systems from independent service providers.

Over Goals Tips is a case in point.

It is available for £12 a month or just £47 a year, which is unquestionably cheap.

The more important question however is: does it represent good value?

I had an indifferent first month with the product, finishing 1.71 points in the red.

On the plus side, the high strike rate, at 77%, ensured I didn’t have to endure long losing runs.

But if I’m not making any money, what’s the point!?

Inevitably, I was hoping month #2 would be better…. so, was it?

Over Goals Tips
Over Goals Tips

Frustratingly, no. We just traded sideways again.

To be precise, I lost 0.13 points over the period, to leave the bank a couple of points down after two months.

Over Goals Tips Trial Month 2 Overall
Profit -0.13 -1.84
Bets 40 75
Winning Bets 32 59
Strike Rate 80% 79%
ROI -0.3% -2.5%
Average Odds 1.26 1.25

As the performance graph shows, we never quite seem to break into profit.

Over Goals Tips - Performance

The big problem is that the service is struggling to find value.

Because it concentrates on short-priced selections, Over Goals Tips needs to achieve a heroic strike rate just to maintain parity.

You can see how short the odds I am getting are, by looking at this month’s results log:

Summary

I still have 125 bets remaining before I reach my 200 bet target. But I am struggling to maintain my enthusiasm.

It seems unlikely to me that, backing at these prices, there is ever going to be a worthwhile upturn in our fortunes that merits the effort involved in placing all these bets!

However, if there is one thing that trialling has taught me, it’s persistence.

Maybe a long winning run lies around the next corner?

Let’s hope so anyway.

I’ll be back in late March with my next report.

Meanwhile, you can read more about Over Goals Tips here.

Update: 27th January 2016

One of the hardest betting lessons is learning how to lose.

And indeed how to win.

I still struggle with the emotion created by the ups and downs: feeling elated during the good times and disconsolate in the bad.

Neither emotion is particularly helpful in the long run.

And it doesn’t seem to help that I do know it’s only really the long view that matters. Over-reacting just seems to be part of being human.

In view of which, I believe there may be value for beginners in starting out with high strike rate systems.

Because, other things being equal, higher strike rates tend to translate into lower volatility. Which means shorter losing runs, smaller profits – but probably smaller losses too.

In short, high strike rates generally mean less drama all round: so you’re more likely to stick at it for the long term.

All of which brings me, somewhat circuitously. to my first monthly progress report on the charmingly uneventful Over Goals Tips!

Over Goals Tips

Maybe I’ve just been trialling too long. But I find the once-a-week email containing the upcoming weekend’s tips almost reassuringly pedestrian!

Summary

We are 1.7 points down after 35 selections so the trial certainly isn’t setting the world alight yet.

However, we have an awful long way to go – another 165 bets, to be precise – and I have a feeling that this will be a very easy service to live with.

A quick bit of mental arithmetic tells me we need to get our strike rate up to around 83% if we’re to lock in regular profits. We’re at 77% so we’ve not too far to go.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the trial and will be back with more towards the end of February.

In the meantime, you can find out more about Over Goals Tips here.

Introduction: 28th December 2015

I have to admit to a slight prejudice in favour of the ‘little guy’ tipster.

You know who I mean… the person who runs up a website of their own and starts promoting their betting service without anyone else’s help.

The tipster market, in particular, is dominated by a few big ‘warehouse’ sites, such as Betting Gods, Betfan and the Pro Betting Club.

But recently we’ve uncovered — and started trialling — new offerings from one-man bands.

And today I’ve got another one for you.

An appealingly straightforward offering called…. Over Goals Tips!

Over Goals Tips
Over Goals Tips

This product is provided by one Ben Jones, a self-confessed football nut who publishes a guide to betting in the Goals markets.

The PDF is intended to be usable as a standalone product. If it works, it looks very fair value at just £12 + VAT.

However for an additional fee (currently £47 a year plus VAT), Ben will send you a whole year’s worth of selections – thus making the thing super-easy to follow.

The PDF does sound pretty easy to follow in its own right however. It contains:

  • a list of 55 teams from around the world that, according to Ben, “should be backed on the over 1.5 Goals markets for consistent profits”.
  • a staking plan that Ben personally uses which, he says, “ensures a consistent rise in profits”.

To his credit, all revisions to the guide are issued to customers for free.

And apparently Ben does update it frequently: for instance, the latest version was released in December 2015.

So how are we going to test it?

Well I really like the sound of this so I’m going to keep it for myself instead of asking one of my triallists to help!

However, I don’t have the time to research 55 teams’ fixture lists so I will simply follow Ben’s tips.

All selections are entered as back bets in the Over 1.5 Goals market, so we should at least get a good strike rate.

I will use Betfair wherever I can, though will resort to bookmakers if there is inadequate liquidity.

We will aim for 200 bets as usual and track performance at both level stakes and by using Ben’s staking plan.

Wish me luck!

Lucy

  1. Hi Batman,
I got the impression that those making the money had been with GP for some time and seemed to have found a niche of one sort or another. I’m sure many have lost out but at the same time it is obviously working for a lot of people – awards every year. Glad to know I’m not alone though. 😉
I got totally confused with the stats – there were too many of them! I think they could do with more instruction for beginners. The case studies Steve has been doing recently would have been brilliant giving an idea of what to look for and where.
As mentioned though, I believe I joined at a bad time – very little football and coming toward the end of the summer season teams. I believe an ideal time to join would have been late Oct/Nov when the Winter season was underway.

  2. Hi Sue,
I totally agree with you about goal profits, just can’t understand why they are so hyped. Don’t want to bash Steve or Kevin, cause I think they have good intensions and sure you’re learning a bit of how the trading world works. But the fact is with all the systems they have, there is always one or two a day that worked. And offcourse you get an email the next day, saying they made another good profit yesterday. Not mentioning the other systems that failed the day before. Then you have the team stats wich is great, but when it says for example that Arsenal scored 85% of there matches in the second half might be true but the season is running since august and now it’s februari. So I think the current stats are just a easy to find for free on the internet. Then trade your bets with the 30k challenge, that was used to be on value football betting, treid that to for a few months, didn’t earn any money also. Again nothing against Steve and Kevin, but the money they make is mainly from the contribution off the customers.

  3. Hi Sue,

I tried Goal Profits for 3 – 4 months but ended up with a largish loss with them. I think it was a bad time as on the CS trading no one seemed to be doing very well. High scoring teams weren’t etc. I tried following Tim’s picks and lost on that and also betting on the most probable in the different markets from the lists they produce daily. It must be me as everyone else seems to fly with them.

I moved on to Trade Your Bets and didn’t do well with them either except for Kevin’s £30k trading challenge. It probably doesn’t help that I haven’t been able to do much betting at weekends for about a year – family commitments – so have missed a fair chunk of the recommended bets. While I’m covering subs I shall continue with this one.

I’m with OddsMonkey but have barely scratched the surface yet (will get going more when the flat season starts) – that and TYB are the only subs I have at the moment.

I’d love to know what you are doing with GProfits and how people make so much money with them. Steve has recently been producing case studies as you must be aware – I wish he’d been doing this while I was with them. Helps to focus the brain and show what is possible – when I looked at the tables/database/etc I found it overwhelming – too many statistics!

I’d love to find a niche, place two or three bets a day, job done. Maybe this year. 😉

  4. Hi Sue,

I’m sorry to hear of your losses, I’ve only done paper trading and so haven’t lost any cash except for the cost of the system, which is about where you’re at anyway. It did look so promising, but as you say, the strike rate just isn’t good enough.

I did track the teams in the list that they give out too, and can’t see why those teams were chosen and the strike rate there isn’t very good either.

I’ve given up buying systems – honestly 😉 – and just sticking with the Profit Maximiser stable and Goal Profits, both of which really do deliver what they say.

    Best regards,

    Sue

  5. Sorry Lucy but I’m shelving this one and not going to the full 100.

I joined this in late November and my current profit is 54p! I missed 3 bets this weekend which was a good thing as one of them was a loser – unfortunately I did bet on two other losers.

I had high hopes for this, planning on compounding my stake as profits increased but they’re not increasing. I seem to be permanently hovering around £0. Sadly the strike rate just isn’t good enough, in my opinion, to make it worthwhile.

  6. Thought I’d update with my results to date:

    So far 51 bets, strike rate = 70.59%, lowest point = -3.25pts, highest point = +1.85pts. Current position = -1.3pts.

I’m staking £5 per point on Smarkets and Betfair and, if on the computer when the game is due, usually go in at about 5 – 10 mins to improve the return somewhat – so for purely bet and go people the return would probably be a little lower.

Shall stick with it but somewhat disappointed to date – I was hoping to increase my stake periodically as profits increased but I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever reach that stage!

I shall try to remember to update again when I get to 100 bets – or thereabouts.

  7. Thanks Lucy – it does help. Following your, and Susan’s comments, I shall keep to the weekend tips.

Another winner today but it’s rotten when you hit a low early as, with such low odds, it takes a while to catch up. Quite happy with slow burners providing they don’t take up a lot of time – and this one doesn’t – and ultimately make a profit.

  8. HI Susan,

Thanks for responding – and yes I do seem to have that effect 😉 But, as I said – very early days and there was a winner last night (after my bed time).

I felt the same way about the list which is why I asked – I’ve also felt that some of the tips were a bit off – for instance, with the wealth of English games available yesterday the only selection from them was Tranmere – which lost.

I’ve actually started making some of my own selections – very cautiously due to odds – and all winners so far, though I’m sure there will be losers if I continue.

I’m hoping that with coming in on a bad run it’ll now pick up. Yesterday was dire though – 4 losers out of 9 tips. Still, onwards and upwards.

  9. I signed up for this a week ago and can’t say I’m very impressed so far. Very early days I know but, having read the comments here I do seem to have picked the wrong time with a strike rate of just under 65% so far – perfect timing as ever…!

One thing I wanted to ask, if anyone’s following this thread, does anybody back the recommended teams from the pdf or do they just use the given weekend tips? If using the recommended teams, how well are they doing?

    1. Hi Sue,

You’ve not scuppered yet another system, have you. 😂

I stopped doing this recently because of time restraints – fortunately, as it turns out! I did look into the teams on the list, but the historical results didn’t fill me with confidence TBH. Of course with such low odds good selections is everything, and 65% is just terrible.

  10. Thanks for the advice Lucy.

Sorry for not using your link. I stupidly didn’t think about the payments to your site when I signed up. It won’t happen again.

    Cheers
    Kris

  11. Hello Lucy

I have just signed up for this service. I will be using level stakes. Can you advise what size bank I should start with? I was considering 25 Pts. Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Cheers
    Kris

    1. Kris

      Nice to hear from you.

I’d have thought 25 points was about right. My lowest point in 206 bets was -4.2 points.

Incidentally, my site now runs to around 1,700 pages and inevitably takes over my life. It would be therefore great if, when asking for advice for the few services I have passed and promote, that you use my link in order to buy them. It doesn’t pay a fortune but it does help keep the whole thing almost completely ad-free.

      thanks Lucy

  12. Hi Lucy,

I signed up through your link before that was arranged and although it was an extra cost it was so small I’m not worried about it. And when I get time (the old enemy), I’ll give the list a look over and it’s recent performance.

Keep up the good work! 🙂

    Best regards,

    Sue

  13. Sue

Yes, agree with all of that.

Secondly, from a customer point of view, it’s now possible to get the advisory service directly, without the need to buy anything else first.

This is important as it’s the advisory service is the one I tested – and thus the one I recommend.

It’s available exclusively for £47 per year + VAT from http://overgoalstips.com/lucy/

I do recommend fans of slow burners take a look.

    Lucy

  14. Hi Lucy

I signed up to this service a few months ago after reading your review and I’m very glad I did! The service is excellent and as regular as clockwork.

Some may find it boring, but I love it; a nice steady way to make cash. And if you want to jazz it up a bit you could use the tips for accas or exotics.

    Many thanks

    Sue

  15. I have continued testing Over Goals and am pleased to report it has continued to add profit slowly, at a high strike rate.

Key figures between 2nd Jan 2016 and 18th Sept as follows:

    Profit 12.28 Points
    Bets 277
    Winning Bets 225
    Strike Rate 81%
    ROI 4.4%
    Average Odds 1.28
    Highest Balance 13.71
    Lowest Balance -4.20

The complete results log is available here.

  16. Hi Lucy,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have gone ahead anyway as the service is so cheap it’d be a bit penny pinching to skip purchasing the PDF which may come in useful anyway. Your link work fine on my laptop although I couldn’t get it to work on my phone.

There is nothing quite like the frisson of excitement of a new betting product!

    Best regards,

    Sue

  17. Sue

No I have not had clarification and I consider it unfinished business.

The problem is that to get the product I tested you had first to buy a much cheaper product that I didn’t. Whose fault this is is a moot point: Ben has said he’ll come up with a solution and so far hasn’t.

I know clickbank were involved and that can delay matters to corporate speed.

    I will chase up.

    Lucy

  18. Hi Lucy

Thank you for the excellent review.

I was very interested in this service, to use it in conjunction with an idea of my own, but cannot load the page via your link. Is it still running?

Also did you get clarification from Ben on the products – it seems there was a mixup on which you were actually trialling?

    Best regards

    Sue

  19. Hi Lucy did you resolve my comments above . I have to admit I managed to get a refund as even Ben said that you had not reviewed the pdf but a different system

    Regards

    Mike

    1. Mike

I have been chasing this for a while now. To be fair to Ben, he is trying to sort the matter out – in effect, to clarify there are two different services, not just an upsell from one to another – but I think he’s been delayed by the Clickbank machinery.

I certainly haven’t given up and will ensure this is sorted out.

Pleased to hear you got a refund if you weren’t happy.

      Lucy

  20. hi lucy thanks for the reply , it still seems strange that all 3 matches this week in the email contain no teams on the list .i also noticed that there was an international match included and having trawled through all your results i could not find one situation of an international team .
do you have a contact email for this as i have sent two now with no reply . not impressed with anything about this so far .

    mike

  21. Hi Lucy as Iain mentioned above I have just bought the system and noticed that some of the selections in the email are not On the pdf . I have tried to contact the provider about this but have not recieved a reply . I would like to find out why he supplies a list of 55 teams yet selects teams which are not included .

    Mike

    1. Mike

I wrote to the supplier about this and he replied as follows:

      1) The manual is updated several times a year, and once someone has purchased it once, they are given/sent every new copy that is released from there on in at no additional cost at all.

      2) The manual can be considered a more broad overview of the time the time that it is released, whereas the tipping service is very much a week in week out proposition.

Presumably this means that new teams may be included in the tipping service, to be later added to the manual at the next update.

      Lucy

  22. Many thanks, Lucy,

    That makes sense.

Incidentally, I purchased the system and neither of the two teams you mention for tomorrows selection is mentioned in the PDF.

    Iain.

      1. Paul

You could but I’m not convinced about doing so. Because the improvement in price on some games will be cancelled out by a reduction on others.

Taking in-play odds involves taking on a different risk: namely that there will be two goals or more in fewer than 90 minutes of play.

Yes the raised odds are attractive: but you will miss early goals and thereby end up getting poorer odds on games where one occurs.

The value is in the selections – which you can make days in advance. And the whole point of this system is that it’s bet-and-forget.

        Lucy

  23. Hi Lucy,

Thanks for the review. Sounds very interesting indeed!

I notice that you didn’t use Betfair for many of the bets. Was this down to liquidity or to get better odds? I’d much prefer to use Betfair if at all possible?

    Iain

    1. Iain

It’s a combination of the two things you mention really.

Often I was putting on bets a day or two ahead of minor games so it was easier to use bookies. But that doesn’t mean Betfair wouldn’t have beaten their price by the time the match came round and the market had formed.

For instance, right now, there is a spread between 1.34 and 1.49 for tomorrow’s selection, Internacional v America MG. Whereas several of the bookies are offering 1.36.

Do I think Betfair will beat 1.36 eventually? Very probably. But when I’m trialling so many systems, I have to make a decision, just like users of the service are likely to do if they’re busy.

Generally Betfair can be expected to offer better odds than most bookies on most games. Which does make you wonder what profit levels are achievable if you are ultra-focussed on price.

I consider this product to be quite a bargain, frankly.

      Lucy

  24. Whenever I see a system backing at very low odds it takes me straight back to the joys of Soccer Streaks…

A big problem with that system was the staking – if they had used level stakes it would have been a lot less painful so maybe level staking to build a bank (and confidence) and then use a staking plan.

  25. Hi Lucy,

I notice from your review that you staked with level stakes, did you not consider the staking system which comes with it ?

Also, could there be a case for making a higher profit by placing selections in rolling doubles. Although i assume a lot of games are on at the same time so you wouldnt be able to place winnings on the next match a lot of the time.

    Thanks for your review,
    Paul

  26. Hi Lucy

Interesting, but your stakes are very low, hardly worth while as you say,but a increase could make all the difference.

On Betfair for example, with odds at 1.30,at £2 bet if successful would return £0.57 is that worth it?,but a £5 bet returns £1.43,and a £10 stake returns £2.85,that makes it more worth while, but of course risking more.

Undecided at the moment, but thanks for your review.

    Best regards,

    Mike.
